Driver Review

I thought the “James Bond” factor was pretty high when I drove the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. But with the DBS, it is off the scale. This is the same model Daniel Craig drove (and wrecked) in the 2 most recent Bond films, and it really lived up to expectations after a long wait to get a chance to drive it - or even see it. The DBS is still a rarity on the road, so I felt extremely privileged to get to try it out.

I actually prefer the size and shape of the smaller Vantage, but the DBS is still stunning to look at. Astons just look great in black - and the extra carbon-fibre details add a touch of menace. Inside, the quality of the workmanship is superb - one of the best interiors of any car.

Driving this vehicle is an awesome experience - huge amounts of power from the 510bhp 6-litre V12, delivered extremely smoothly and accompanied by a deep growling soundtrack. As you accelerate through the gears (manual gearbox - hurray!) the kick in the back just keeps going. I actually prefer the “immediacy” of the V8 in the Ferrari F355 and F430, but there’s no questioning this car’s power. It is actually a little tail-happy - a side-effect of that huge amount of power - which makes it feel a little bit more like the 355 on corners, although you’re sitting much higher in the DBS.

So - a fantastic, memorable experience. I might not have much in common with Daniel Craig apart from sharing the decade we were born in, but I got to drive the same car as him. Without destroying it.

Passenger Review

This is one of the most luxurious supercars ever made. The classy exterior shape gives the car instant respect and the leather seats and chrome centre console give it a very comfy feel. The monstrous V12 engine produces 510bhp and the top speed is 191mph. It goes so fast but so smoothly. The engine is not a very loud one at that especially considering it has 4 more cylinders than the V8 Vantage but it is so smooth you don’t really care! The only problem I have is that when it’s in sport mode you really feel the bumps on the road giving you a sore back! Style and speed really do come together brilliantly in this car. It isn’t perfect but it is very good!
